The start of summer brought small adventures and time to read in the shade. Here are my June highlights.
1. Exploring the West Coast of Scotland
Earlier this month we paid a short visit to Oban and the beautiful surrounding areas. The best bits included Loch Lomond, Oban Distillery and a day trip to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.
2. Gluten free delights in York
We stayed with family in York for two nights before heading up to Oban. As well as delicious coeliac-friendly meals at El Piano and 2 Oxford Place, we stopped at York Cocoa Works. I’m still thinking about their dark hot chocolate.
3. Heartburn – Nora Ephron
The lovely Virago Modern Classics edition is pictured below, alongside a beer mat portrait drawn by Emily Catherine Illustration. We met at a micro-pub in Nottingham on the last leg of our trip.
4. The Hamilton Original Cast Recording
I haven’t made plans to see Hamilton in London yet, but I am a dedicated fan of the Original Broadway Cast Recording. Listening to it from start to finish for the first time felt like three hours well spent.
5. Nanette – Hannah Gadsby
I first heard Australian comedian Hannah Gadsby as a guest on The Guilty Feminist podcast. In Nanette, a new Netflix special, her witty and powerful stand-up stands alone. Gadsby covers sexuality, shame, art history and trauma, addressing the problems of comedy and intolerance as she goes.
